Behind the scenes: RIPD x Stitches Technology
By: Stephanie Cherry
Preparing for a fashion show is never an easy task. In fact the preparation that is required for a fashion show can be hectic, overwhelming, yet so rewarding. This year for Spring/Summer 2019 RIPD showcased our new collection at an #LAFW event with The Model Experience. TME is a platform where upcoming models gain exposure in the fashion industry.
About the brand:
RIPD is a clothing brand encouraging creatives to remain unique and fearless. RIPD is about being the best version of yourself! The collection features one of a kind re-engineered vintage denim pieces.
Why Stitches Technology?
RIPD launched over 2 years ago but it wasn't until January 2019 that I enrolled in the Stitches Technology Designing For Success Academy program. Stitches is held four days a week for about 8 hours a day. The Stitches program has been the most informative yet hands on class I have ever taken. Our instructor Clotee Mcafee not only teaches us how to operate an industrial sewing machine. Clotee has been in the fashion industry for over 40 years. She also uncovers information about the garment industry and how to run your own company.
Behind the Designs:
For this collection we wanted to remain true to our vintage denim roots, showcasing one of a kind denim. In preparation for the fashion show my amazing classmates in the Stitches program who are also fashion entrepreneurs helped turn the RIPD vision into a reality. Turner Robinson, Nehemiah Davidson alongside our wonderful instructor Clotee McAfee. We re-worked blazers and button up blouses. Sewing distressed denim pockets to hand picked vintage items. We even sewed apparel labels on each pair of jeans shown in the fashion show. The end result was nothing less than amazing! Our fashion show would not have been complete without the Stitches program and the help of my classmates!
The Fashion Show
The fashion show was held at the Convention Center Friday March 8.
